What is social facilitation?


Social facilitation is defined as improvement in the individual performance of a person when in the presence of others. According to Zajonc, In the presence of others the person experience arousal, which makes the person react more intensely. This arousal occurs when the person feels that he/she is being evaluated, Cotrell called this idea as evaluation apprehension. To avoid criticism, we perform better. This facilitation usually occurs for simple and familiar tasks
