Tulsidas Jayanti is celebrated on the birth of great poet Goswami Tulisdas, the author of the hindu epic Ramacharitamanas, on account of the greatness of Lord Rama, the seventh Avatar of Lord Vishnu.
Tulsidas was acclaimed in his lifetime to be a reincarnation of Valmiki, the composer of the original Ramayana in Sanskrit. Tulsidas Jayanti observed seven days after Shravan Amavasi.
The original Ramayana in Sanskrit was only understood by scholars and it was Tulisdas’s Ram-charit-mans in Hindi that popularized the epic in Hindi heartland in India. Ramcharitmanas was written by Tulsidas in Awadhi, a dialect of Hindi.
Tulslidas was not a common person, but a blessed person, his life is noted for numerous miracles, which includes meeting with Lord Hanuman and the subsequent darshan of Lord Ram with the help of Hanuman. It is widely believed that Lord Hanuman helped Tulsidas in composing the Ramcharitmanas.
Tulsidas also composed the epic poem Hanuman Chalisa, which till date is extremely important to the devotees of Lord Hanuman.
On the Goswami Tulsidas Jayanti day, Ramcharitmanas is read in temples of Lord Ram and Hanuman.
