Mughalsarai Junction will get a new name Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Station.
Mughalsarai Junction, UP (Uttar Pradesh), the fourth-biggest Station in India. The station contains the largest railway marshaling yard in Asia.
Union railway minister Piyush Goyal tweeted that "Mugalasarai railway station" has been renamed Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Station on Friday.
The renaming of the iconic railway station was proposed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in August. The state government had pointed to the mysterious death of Upadhyaya at the Mughalsarai station on February 11, 1968, as one of the primary reasons to rename the station, an official told The Indian Express.
UP cabinet had approved the recommendation to change the name of the station to Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya railway station.
Who was Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay
He was most important leaders of the Bhartiya Jan Sangh, today is known as Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP). Deendayal Upadhyaya was General Secretary of the Bhartiya Jan Sangh from its first Kanpur session in December 1951 to its 14th Cabinet session in December 1967. He died on 11 February 1968 at Mughalsarai in UP, while travelling in a train under mysterious circumstances.
