Rustom – II, developed by DRDO, India is a medium altitude long endurance Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV).
The aircraft has been named after Rustom Damania, a former professor of IISc, Bangalore who passed away in 2001.
Rustom-II completed its maiden flight on November 16, 2016 and the aircraft has an endurance of 24 hours. It weighs 1.8 tons and has a capacity payload of 350 kilograms.
The vehicle has been developed to conduct military missions like reconnaissance and surveillance, target acquisition and designation, communication relay, battle damage assessment and signal intelligence for the three Indian Armed Forces (IAF) and will replace the Israeli Heron UAV, which is presently used by IAF.
