Guiding values of the Indian Constitution

  1. A constitution is not merely a statement of values and philosophy.
  2. The Constitution describes the institutional arrangements in a very legal language.
  3. Secularism means equality of all religions and treating each religion with due respect.
  4. India is a secular state because the State has no religion of its own and treats all religions equally.
  5. People are free to practice any religion of their choice.
  6. Everybody is treated equally irrespective of his caste, colour, creed, social and economic background, etc.

Institutional design

  3. It provides for the equality of opportunity to all the citizens and protects every individual’s dignity.
  4. Encourages a sense of brotherhood among citizens.
  5. Unity of the nation is the ultimate goal
