Introduction

An object reflects light that falls on it. This reflected light when received by our eyes, enables us to see things.

Properties of Light

  1. An electromagnetic wave so does not require any medium to travel.
  2. Light tends to travel in straight line.
  3. Light has dual nature i.e., wave as well as a particle.
  4. Light casts shadow.
  5. Speed of light is maximum in a vacuum. Its value is 3 × 108 ms-1.
  6. When light falls on a surface, the following may happen :
    (a) Reflection
    (b) Refraction
    (c) Absorption
