What is Public Distribution System

Public Distribution System (PDS) PDS refers to a system through which the food procured by the FCI is distributed among the poor through government regulated ration shops. The consumers have issued ration cards.

Types of Ration Cards in India. There are three kinds of ration cards:

  1. Antyodaya cards for the poorest of the poor,
  2. BPL cards for those below the poverty line and,
  3. APL cards for that above poverty line.
