Describe the industrial uses of hydrogen which depend on:
(i) the heat liberated when it burns,
(ii) its ability to react with vegetable oil in the presence of catalyst,
(iii) its ability to unite with nitrogen.
Mention some important uses of dihydrogen ?
It is used:
(i) in filling toy balloons and airships.
(ii) in the hydrogenation of oils to get vanaspati ghee.
(iii) in the manufacture of ammonia, methyl alcohol, water gas and fertilisers.
(iv) in oxy-hydrogen torch for welding purposes
(v) as a reducing agent in laboratory and industry.
