271. The nth term of an A .P. is 7 – 4n find its common difference.

We have, a_n = 7 – 4n
a_n = 7 – 4 n
a_n = 7 – 4(1) = 7 – 4 = 3
a₂ = 7 – 4 (2) = 7 – 8 = –1
and, a₃ = 7 – 4 (3) = 7 – 12 = –5
Now, common difference (d) = a₃ – a₂ =– 5 + 1 = –4
