Shortcut Method;
As, Figure, ABCD always contains 8 triangles
Now, count side triangles i.e. △(ABE),  △(DCF). These two triangles causes two more traingles formation .i.e. △ (AEC) and △ (DFB). Hence, (8 + 2 + 2) = 12 traingles are formed.
