Since, [number of boys]: [number of girls] = 7 : 5

Let the number of boys = 7x

and     the number of girls = 5x

     According to the condition, we have

                                       7x = 5x +8

    Transposing 5x to LHS, we have

                                     7x - 5x =8

or                                           2x = 8

    Dividing both sides by 2,

                                           x = 8 $divided by$ 2 = 4
