Two iron spheres of radii 12 cm and 1 cm are melted and fused. Two new spheres are made without any loss of iron. Their possible radii could be

  • 9 and 4 cm

  • 9 and 10 cm

  • 8 and 5 cm

  • 2 and 11 cm

B.

9 and 10 cm

Total volume of two sphere = 43π (R^3 + r^3), where R and r are the radii respectively.

First case- Volume = 43 π (12^3 + 1^3) = 43π (1728 +1) = 43 π (1729)

to avoid loss of iron, total volume must be equal to sum of the volume of the two new spheres.

Here, as 43π is constant, R^3 + r^3 must be = 1729 (radii of new spheres)

Out of given option, 9^3 + 10^3 = 729 + 1000 = 1729

Hence spheres must be having 9 and 10 cm radii each.
