When a p-n diode is reverse biased,then

  • no current flows

  • the depletion region is increased

  • the depletion region is reduced

  • the height of the potential barrier is reduced

B.

the depletion region is increased

The process by which, a p-n junction diode blocks the electric current in the presence of applied voltage is called reverse biased p-n junction diode. In reverse biased the p-n junction diode is connected to the n-type semiconductor material and the negative terminal of the battery connected to the p-type semiconductor material.

If the reverse biases voltage applied on the p-n junction diode is further increased, then even more number of free electrons and holes are pulled away from the p-n junction. This increase the width of the depletion region. Hence, the width of the depletion region increase with increase in voltage.
