T.R. Malthus.
T.R. Malthus proposed a theory of human population growth and stated that when un-checked population grows geometrically whereas the means of its subsistence grows only arithmetically. This would cause an imbalance between the growth in the means of subsistence and in the growth of population when the imbalance becomes too pronounced, then some factors like hunger, epidemics and war would reduce the population to a level with the means of subsistence. Such population balancing contingencies were termed as ‘positive checks’ by Malthus.
