i. What is the difference between a 'burst and a break' in the monsoons?

ii. Explain why rainfall decreases eastwards in peninsular India and westwards in the northern plains of India.

i. The sudden onset of rain due to south-west monsoon winds is often termed as burst whereas when the south west monsoon winds fail to bring rain for two or more weeks during the rainy season it is known as break in the monsoon.

ii. Rainfall decreases eastward in peninsular India because the rain bearing south - west monsoon winds enter peninsular India from Arabian sea in the West.

Whereas in the northern plains the rain bearing  monsoon winds enter from the Bay of Bengal in the east and as they move westward they go on loosing their moisture so the rainfall goes on decreasing westward in the Northern plains of India.
