Laser light of wavelength 630 nm is incident on a pair of slits which are separated by 1.8 mm. If the screen is kept 80 cm away from the two slits, calculate:

i) fringe separation i.e., fringe width

ii) distance of 10th bright fringe from the centre of the interference pattern.

i) Given,

Wavelength of incident light, straight lambda = 630 nm = 630 x 10-9 m
Distance between the slits, D = 80 cm = 0.8 m

Distance between slit and screen, d = 1.8 mm = 1.8 x 10-3 m

Therefore,

Fringe width, straight beta space equals space λD over straight d
straight beta space equals space fraction numerator 630 space straight x space 10 to the power of negative 9 end exponent space straight x space 0.8 over denominator 1.8 space straight x space 10 to the power of negative 3 end exponent end fraction space equals space 280 space straight x space 10 to the power of negative 6 end exponent space straight m
ii) Distance of 10th bright fringe from the centre of the interference pattern,

X(10) = 10 straight beta = 280 x 10-6

        = 2.8 x 10-3 m

A point object O is placed at a distance of 15 cm from a convex lens L of focal length 10 cm as shown in figure below. On the other side of the lens, a convex mirror M is placed such that its distance from the lens is equal to the focal length of the lens. The final image formed by this combination is observed to coincide with the object O. Find the focal length of the convex mirror.

In an experiment of photoelectric effect, the graph of maximum kinetic energy Ek of the emitted photoelectrons versus the frequency straight nu of the incident light is a straight line AB as shown in the figure below.

ii) Work function of the metal

iii) Stopping potential for the photoelectrons emitted by the light of frequency straight nu space equals space 30 space straight x space 10 to the power of 14 Hz
