What is diathesis-stress model?
Diathesis-stress model views abnormal behaviour as the result of stress operating on an individual with a biological, psycho-social or socio-cultural predisposition toward developing a specific disorder. Diathesis refers to biological predisposition. This model has three components
1. Diathesis or presence of some biological aberrations which may be inherited.
2. May carry a vulnerability to develop psychological disorder.
3. Presence of pathological stressor may lead to psychopathology.
